What is hepatitis B?
It's a serious disease that affects the liver, caused by a virus. It's
spread through contact with the blood or other body fluids of an
infected person. Someone can become infected by:
- Breaks in the skin
- Contact with infected objects like toothbrushes or razors
- Having unprotected sex with an infected person
- Sharing needles while injecting drugs
- Being stuck with a used needle
Who should get vaccinated?
- Men who have sex with men
- Those who have multiple sexual partners
- Anyone whose job exposes them to human blood
- Those with HIV
- Staff/residents in institutions for the developmentally disabled
- People with chronic liver or kidney disease
Who should not get vaccinated?
- Anyone with severe allergies to baker's yeast or any other component of the vaccine
- Anyone who is moderately or severely ill should wait until they recover
